Considering all the turmoil arising in Europe...

Well in the beginning I wanted to post a joke about what happened in Nice, south of France. When I told the joke I got all the evil looks in the world. OK, it's a dark kind of humor but if you think about it you will come to the conclusion that you could have come up with this on your own. So here it goes:

Do you know why the terrorist that killed over 80 people with a truck in Nice was a philanthropist? Because he wanted millions of people around the world to feel better by wearing a T-Shirt saying "I am Nice"...

AAAHAHAHAHAH... HAHA... Har, har....  hemmm , ok, I guess it's only funny when you don't have anything else to live for anymore...

Well I abandoned the idea of making a T-Shirt with "I am Nice" on it. But it gave me the idea of a new area in the world that the NSA should keep an eye on: Europistan! And as the UK left Europe it would be in good position watch overseas with a spyglass. This design is still under revision so I should have it in the Redbubble store within a few weeks. And it is a bit less gloomy than the "I am Nice" slogan...

Leave a comment to let me know what you think...

NSA Undercover Agent Of The Year Awards!

An award everyone wants to brag about without actually doing it

This is a quick post to let you know that you can have your personalized mug with your country. Just drop me a line.

I will not do all the countries but if I have several requests for a specific country I will make the design available. For now only Germany is available as per request by the client who ordered it.

Get it on my Redbubble account.

For the details about the process you can go to the separate article I wrote.

One question, multiple answers

There I go again with my "Gluten Free Fish". After my debate the answer the worm gave didn't receive the unanimous standing ovation I expected, although many appreciated it. Well the Internet is a democracy after all isn't it?

So I thought hard (no laughs!) and decided to take away the answer. It makes the drawing more interactive as you are free to give any answer you like. Actually it could even start a debate about what the worm should say or what the rest of the conversation is about.

When I first designed the fish and the worm I had so many ideas about what the reply should be. Some replies were even quite offensive, some others were very short... In the end I settled for something more neutral. But if you have ideas about what the worm should say just express yourself in the comment section below. Maybe I will make a revised version around Christmas...

Saint d'Ique wine label

So what's behind this picture? I just don't know but I guess I was just about to take the train and the SNCF (the French national rail company) was on strike again.

I thought "Damn, I could really use a nice and cool glass or Pinot Gris (a great Alsatian wine) to lift up my spirit. Then my "artistic brain" started having these crazy conversations about grapes talking to each other and how they should go on strike because they don't wanted to be squeezed anymore... Then came this title "Les raisins de la colère" (Grapes of wrath) to mind. Well yes, the raisins are angry (raisins en colère) for being squeezed to the last drop. These arguments are so similar to what the French trade unions (CGT, CFDT, FO) are always complaining about.

So now I had to find a nice and cute little basket filled with happy or angry raisins to illustrate the wine label. I got inspired by a few pictures and combined them. I used the wooden planks I had created for another project and added the protest text. Et voila!

Of course this wouldn't be enough to make this a real label. I needed some awesome additions like the appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) which translates as "controlled designation of origin". But it sounded too common so I turned it into appellation d'origine incontrôlable : "uncontrollable designation of origin". Yeah! Now that sounded much better! Now I needed to change the wine grape variety "Merlot" into something that sounded just like the original. Well there is water in the sea so in French you would say "il y a de l'eau dans la mer" (there is water in the sea). So MER + L'EAU gave the same sound as Merlot... My brain stopped working, meaning this was all a perfect combination of utter nonsense for a wine label of this magnitude.

"Le vin des pas contents" means "The wine of those who aren't happy" which is true because the French trade unions are never happy whatever the outcome of the protests. Furthermore, if you would give in to their demands you would take away the only reason of their existence and plunge them into a depressive state (as if it wasn't enough that France is the first worldwide consumer of antidepressants already).

The "Ze" in "Produce of Ze France" comes from French English speakers' inability to pronounce "the" correctly. I'm sure you can find examples of French accents on Youtube...

Alright, I think that's about it for this post. Let me know in the comment section what you think.

The Gluten Free Fish is finalized at last.

The story behind the initial design is quite short. It all started with an acquaintance who always ate regular pasta and decided to go "gluten free" after reading an article about the rising popularity of gluten free products.

I started to wonder how far this trend would go. Would animals also fall for this trend? I am sure that some people have a valid reason for eating gluten free food due to allergy but some others just want to stick out of the crowd and do things differently.

So I came up with a fish talking to a worm. At first I hadn't planned for the worm to reply to "Are You Gluten Free?" but as time went by and I polished the design several ideas came to me. The fish could have answered "Seriously?" or "Just try me and we'll both find out" or even "Now this is going to fuck up the food chain...".

In the end I went for "Sure! I'm also lactose free, sugar free, egg free, fat free, nitrate free and almost BS free."

I thought it would be nice to include other common allergies and dietary restrictions so that no one feels left behind.

The piece took about 2 weeks to complete. I didn't work full time on it during the 2 weeks. I started with a pencil draft to get the fish right. Then I drew the worm on the hook and scanned both characters. I wanted to create an original type for "ARE YOU GLUTEN FREE?" but it just didn't look the way I wanted so I chose a standard font that I rasterized. I added bubbles and picked a blue color that matches the background circle.

I had to keep in mind that the design would go on T-shirts, iPhone cases, pillow cases, tote bags and more apparel. So the Gluten Free Fish had to be saved in PNG format with transparent background. The original file resolution is 8000 x 11715 pixels. This size allows the design to be printed on large formats.

The design is available on my RedBubble account.

MegaMug Runs For President ranking first on my Redbubble account!

Despite my other designs I didn't expect MegaMug to have more views than any of my other designs. I'll be adding more designs soon as well as some variations on my bear that some visitors would like to see in pink.

The bear is done in ink on bristol type paper and its original size is 21x21 cm. The drawing isn't for sale yet. I will post when I will be ready to sell. For the moment I like it. Tell me what you think about it.

Just a note to talk about the tools that I use for creating my line art

I mostly use the Sakura Pigma Micron pens. I use various sizes and all work great. All but the 005 which is the thinnest version of the pens. I got 3 so far and all of them have had the same problem. If you apply too much pressure the nibs disappear into the pen. So you have to be very gentle when drawing with them. Apparently this issue has already been discusses on other websites. I'm looking for an alternative now because I don't want to use a larger line for my details.

If anyone has suggestions just drop me a note.
